Anzac Day in the Inner West

Anzac Day in Balmain has become a tradition for locals. With the day starting with a 6am dawn service attended by over 3000 locals, and ending respectfully at one of the many historical pubs (try Dicks, The Exchange or The Royal Oak) that veterans and their dynasty return to share memories and create new ones.

The Dawn Service begins in Loyalty Square on Darling St (outside Woolworths) and this time draws in returned services from New Zealand, Australia and other areas of the South Pacific. Local Paul O’Doughty, says “this is a truly memorable event, and it is great the locals get behind it”.

Local businesses offer early risers tasty coffee and breakfast, while the band and speeches pay tribute to the Anzacs.

There is also an Anzac Day service in Petersham Town Hall between 6am and 7am, put on by Petersham RSL.
