Espresso Organica opened less than 4 months ago much to the delight of Concord locals. Providing an educative, passionate and of course tasty approach to food and coffee, this café has wooed café loyalists from all over Sydney
Its very hard to part ways with your regular coffee stop,
but then when you fi nd somewhere that is a better,
brighter, tastier and friendlier – sure you feel a sense
of betrayal and a tinge of guilt, but then when you step
into the arms of your new café, and in this case Espresso
Organica, the memories of the old are left far behind.
It is fresh, inviting and smells oh so good. The coffee list
is comprehensive with coffees purchased from round the
world with a conscience, under ethical conditions with
freshness and customer satisfaction as a highest priority.
Owner and founder Tom tells us about his passion for
coffee and his support for organic fair trade and
sustainable agriculture.
This means he buys and roasts the finest organic, forest
friendly and fair trade estate green coffees as possible.
By purchasing these green coffees he is reinforcing his
commitment to the environment and the farmers and
providing his customers with superior quality.
Each and every one coffee that he roasts has a special
taste that is distinctive to its region. Some are full bodied
while some are light and mellow. But all are certainly
delicious in their own special way. So whether you like
your coffee rich and syrupy or mellow and aromatic, there
is defi nitely an estate coffee for you at this store.
This week’s blend is “Monsooned Malabar aged blend”.
Described as “wild, complex, nutty and fruity with a
medium coffee strength” we are intrigued. The blend
was developed using Monsooned Malabar coffee
that it takes 12 to 16 months to process. It is stored in
warehouses until the monsoon season, and then the
sides of the warehouse are opened up to allow the monsoon winds to circulate around the coffee while it is
being constantly raked and turned by hand. This process
swells the beans and reduces acidity, giving a mellow,
aggressive musty fl avor, trying to duplicate the old
style coffee that used to travel from Java to Europe in the
days of sail, and mimic the affect that long sea voyages in
leaky, hot, humid wooden sailing ships had on coffee.
This enhances their fl avour, and when blended produced
an intense aromatic coffee that instantly commands
attention.
Also popular is Mocha Java Blend. Blending Sumatran
sulawesi coffee in this blend that is Highly regarded as
a “substitute” for the Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee.
Exceptionally well balanced, with a sweet distinctive fl avour. The subtle notes of roasted macadamia nut maple-syrupy body, combined with a dark chocolate and characters of the tropical forest fruit, sets it apart. Our shots of coffee disappear in a fl ash and we look longingly at the display cabinets fi lled with organic loose leave teas, bags of different coffee blends and single origin coffees, gingerbread men, strawberry tarts, éclairs and many other treats.
Espresso Organica is perfect for a light snack, breakfast,
lunch or treat, but of course the main attraction is the
coffee. It won’t be long before you too, fall in love.
