Footprints Ecofestival 2013

Don’t miss this year’s Footprints Ecofestival to be held on August 25th at Whites Creek Valley Park, Annandale. The festival will be bursting with things to see, do and learn with a jam-packed program of workshops and entertainment planned from 11am to 3pm.

Workshops

There will be lots of workshops happening all over the park this year including bush tucker talks focusing on growing and identifying edible native plants, with opportunities for participants to sample bush tucker, as well as other demonstrations in the eco-trailer and worm-farm van.

Kids should get down to the recycled art workshops run by Artspark, which will be happening all day long and teach kids how to reuse recycled products to make artistic masterpieces. Meanwhile, across the green foodies won’t want to miss the pickling and cheese-making demonstrations run by the Cornersmith Cafe – this workshop will help you reduce your food waste, including plastic packaging.

Community Garden Opening

The Whites Creek Community Garden official opening will be held at 12.30pm on the day so come along and check out the new garden area – it will be open throughout the day and volunteers will be on hand to give you a tour. There will also be tours of the Whites Creek Wetland where guests can learn about the construction of the wetland and the importance of preserving ecosystems.

Clothing Swap

Have a heap of clothes you don’t wear anymore that are still in great condition? Then bring them along to the festival for the Footprints Clothing Swap – a place where you can trade what you no longer need for something you will use. The swap will be held in the area outside the Whites Creek Dairy and starts at 12pm, however clothes must be dropped off prior. There will be tables for women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing so if you would like to participate, register by emailing footprints@lmc.nsw.gov.au or calling 9367 9381.

Instructions for participants:
1.  Bring up to six quality items of clothing that are clean and undamaged (belts and shoes are okay, but please do not bring jewellery). Drop them off at the Swap Tent between 11am and 11:40am. You will be given one token for each item of clothing that you bring.
2.  While the clothes are being sorted and arranged, take a wander through the Ecofestival.
3.  Return when the swap starts at 12pm. Participants will be allowed into the Swap Tent and can choose any items. You can take one item for each token that you have received (if you bring four items of clothing, you will get four tokens and can take up to four ‘new’ items). The more clothes you bring to the swap, the more you’ll be able to take away!
