Gig Guide – 222

Saturday 9th November
Melbourne Ska Orchestra

I’ve never heard Big Band ska before now, although I have been a fan of ska itself for a while and the orchestra style suits. It’s just reggae beats with a jazzed up rhythm but ska always sounds great and is a lot of fun to bounce to.

The Factory Theatre, $33.40

Stonefield (pictured)

This is some pretty hard, old school rock and it’s working pretty well for this all-girl outfit. They can all play well, they know how to complement their singer and it’s all put together in a great way. Totally going to go check out these ladies.

The Annandale, $22.95

Sunday 17th November
The Brouhaha

Self-described as “feel-good folk” and that’s pretty accurate; their last EP was called Smile It’s Free and their new release is As long as there’s a Smile. Similar to Missy Higgins and a bit like Jack Johnson as well, so if you’re into relaxing, chill-out music, this could be your thing.

The Newsagency, $15
