Have a Royal ANZAC day

It’s gearing up to be an exciting Anzac Day at the Royal Hotel, Leichhardt. We caught up with Marketing Manager, Cassie Lalieu, to find out exactly what will be happening on the day…

What do you have planned for Anzac Day?
We’re very excited to encourage the Anzac Day spirit, not only because it’s the first time since taking over management of the Royal, but also because we’re excited to have all of Leichhardt involved. Everyone is invited to come down with a two-up arena in our main bar from 2pm and live music from 9pm.

Why is Anzac Day traditionally such a big day for pubs, not just in the Inner West but Sydney-wide?
Anzac Day is one of Australia’s most important national occasions and with pubs at the core of Australian culture, it makes sense that this special day really strikes a chord with publicans and the community around them. Pubs, such as the Royal, are at the heart of their community and are the perfect place for people to come together in a relaxed, heartfelt and welcoming environment for a cold beer, a good meal and some two-up. You can’t get that true blue, mateship atmosphere anywhere else.

Why do you think it’s important for locals to get together and celebrate this event?
Anzac Day is all about comradeship, mateship and the community you are a part of – that’s what it was all about for the Anzac diggers. We think that Anzac Day is an opportunity for locals to come together and really live the true blue Aussie spirit that was so prevalent in our Anzac diggers.

If you had to choose, what traditional Aussie treat would you go for – Anzac cookies or lamingtons?
Anzac Day cookies all the way!

So there you have it pubgoers, get into the Anzac Day spirit and get down to the Royal come April 25th. The pub will be open from 8am to late so you can settle in all day. Be sure to stay for dinner too, “You can’t go past the Royal Burger or the Fish n Chips,” says Cassie.
