Roadworks underway in Canada Bay

Over 30 streets in Canada Bay will be resurfaced as part of the Council’s $2.5 million Roads Renewal Program, beginning this November. The majority of streets affected will be in Concord and Concord West, but work will be commencing on a fewer number of streets in Drummoyne, Five Dock, Mortlake, Russell Lea and North Strathfield as well. This round of asphalt resurfacing is one of the Council’s biggest undertakings this year. It forms part of the Road Renewal Program’s second stage and is projected to finish at the end of December 2016, weather permitting.


 

Dawn Fraser pool to be upgraded in 2018

Funding has been formally approved for the upgrade of Dawn Fraser Pools in Balmain, with $800,000 allocated to improving facilities at the favourite local swimming spot. The upgrade intends to improve accessibility, install new toilets and improve fire safety, and this announcement is welcome amidst locals’ concerns that the project had been postponed. The design will be developed next year, with work scheduled to begin in winter 2018 to avoid disruption to the 2017-2018 summer swimming season.


 

New Alcohol Free Zones for Ashfield

Ashfield is due to see a number of Alcohol Free Zones established in local parks and streets following requests from Ashfield police and consultations with the community. Nine locations will now become Alcohol Prohibited Areas between 9pm and 7am, including Allman Park, Pratten Park, Hammond Park and Ashfield Park. Some of the backstreets around Liverpool Road will also become 24 hour Alcohol Free Zones. For full details of the locations, visit the Inner West Council’s website.
