Party for awareness

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Curves clubs have been hosting special Girls Night In fundraising events. The idea is as a group, participants donate the money they would have spent on a big night out having a night in instead!

Members and non-members participate in the Girls Night In events, which not only raise awareness of breast cancer in the community and educate more women about the importance of monthly breast selfexams and yearly mammograms, but they also offer a great party!

Attendees are treated to a night of great food, generous pampering and live entertainment, such as the Sirens Dance troupe that performed for Curves Concord ‘Bollywood Dance Party’ on the 7th of October and the Shoe Party & Decorate Your Bra night at Curves Camperdown on the 20th.

Other events scheduled are a Pyjama Party & Movie Night at Curves Haberfi eld on Tuesday 27th October, a ‘Pampering Night’ including beauty treatments and massage along with FREE give-aways hosted by Curves Wareemba & Strathfi eld on Wednesday 28th, and a Shopping Night at Curves Petersham on Friday 30th. Together the clubs will raise over $5,000 for cancer research.

Studies have shown that leading a cancer smart lifestyle involving plenty of exercise and proper nutrition has proven important in reducing the lifetime risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer.

According to European researchers, being overweight could become the leading cause of cancer in women in Western countries in the coming years.

Obesity is catching up at a rate that it could possibly become the biggest attributable cause of cancer in women within the next decade. According to Cancer Council Australia, one in four Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer by age 75.

“Curves clubs are committed to helping the women of our community lose weight and live healthy and strong lives. The Girls Night In events are just one way that we can contribute,” says Sally Fitzpatrick, owner of Curves Concord.

“We take this time to encourage the women of Sydney to learn more about the impact that wellness has on preventing
cancer,” says Fitzpatrick. Together a healthy diet, regular exercise and being “breast-aware” are essential elements in breast cancer prevention.
