New Cancer Centre in Concord

The state-of-the-art facility offers cutting-edge cancer treatments and services, including highly advanced radiation therapy techniques and technology, CT scanning and rapid access for patients receiving palliative care. Medical oncology services will be available from 2020.

The new $7 million dollar centre will be equipped to deliver up to 16,200 radiation therapy and medical oncology treatments for up to 1,100 cancer patients annually. The facility offers the latest advances in radiation therapy technology, including the Elekta VersaHD with the ExacTrac positioning system, providing millimetre-accuracy in pinpointing radiation to the brain, prostate, liver and lung.

A team of more than 20 experienced and respected oncologists, nurses and support staff have been recruited to deliver quality care at the centre.

GenesisCare Radiation Oncologist and Medical Director at Concord, Dr Chelsie O’Connor, who has been consulting in the area for many years, said: “The local community has been calling for a local cancer service for years and it’s fantastic that patients now have access to treatment closer to home.”

“Throughout the entire project we worked closely with local community and patient groups to design a space where patients and their carers felt comfortable and supported in their cancer journey.”

The Deputy Mayor of the City of Canada Bay, which encompasses Concord, Julia Little, said the opening was terrific news for the community: “Today’s opening of this new state-of-the-art facility in the City of Canada Bay area is fantastic news for local residents. Our local community now has access to comprehensive world-class care and treatment at their doorstep.”

The City of Canada Bay Local Government Area was identified as one of the state’s three priority areas for a new service, based on the NSW Government’s review of Cancer Institute NSW’s projected cancer rates in the region.1The centre was developed to help meet increasing needs, with cancer rates in the area expected to rise by 2-3 per cent each year.1

The facility is located on the corner of Concord Rd and Currawang St, Concord. Patients can access the centre via multiple public transport hubs or make the most of free on-site parking, taking away an extra stress from their treatment experience.
