Halloween in Balmain

It’ll be the biggest Halloween event in the Inner West. Now in it’s 31st year, Nicholson Street Public School’s popular festival has become a well-known community events for residents in Balmain and beyond, offering a day of fun and activities for kids and their families.

The local primary school will once again play host on Saturday 27th October from 2-7pm. This year, the festival is introducing new activities catering for 3 to 5-year-olds. The popular Haunted House and Monster Mash will again return.

The event will begin at 2pm, with best dressed and pumpkin competition winners announced at 4pm. The live auction will take place at 4.30pm, while the festival closes its doors at 7pm.

A key feature of this year’s festival will be the new toddler area with crafts, fairground games and a special inflatable. “We are recognising the importance of the children who currently attend pre-schools in the area who are the future students of Nicholson Street Public School” says P&C President Phil Garrett.  “With an ever-increasing focus on school readiness and making the transition to primary school as easy as possible, we want to encourage families with younger children to come and be a part of our wonderful school community as early as possible.”

This year, the festival will also see a stronger focus in sustainability and environmental care, to reflect the learning going on in Nicholson Street classrooms. Initiatives include a filter water refill station, an environment education desk, a plastic free ‘Kitchen of Horrors’ as well as dedicated recycle points and a worm farm. The Clean Oceans organisation is also working with the festival to raise awareness on plastic pollution and the importance of keeping our waterway and oceans clear.

Other sponsorship support includes key sponsor Cobden & Hayson, who have given generously in the past and allowed Nicholson Street to introduce technology into classrooms, initiate an annual Artist in Residence Project, increase the music program, and upgrade the playground. Special thanks goes to agent Peter Gordon who has supported the event both personally and through Cobden & Hayson for many years.

Release your inner ghoul and go forth…..
