Pistacchio’s Nuts

It was all eyes on the sex worker when she stood up to address Anthony Albanese at the recent Grayndler candidate debate...

Elena (probably not her real name) proudly petitioned for protection of sex workers health and safety standards. Anthony bravely accepted the letters and petitions and acknowledged that sex workers in the Grayndler electorate were always going to be protected, at least while he was in power. Luckily for us, he is still in power, and luckier still, his position had been challenged. The seat of Grayndler had to be recounted from 10am Monday 23rd to recount the preferences that flowed from Liberal candidate Alex Dore to Greens candidate and ex-Marrickville mayor Sam Byrne. Albanese still won, but is margin narrowed to around 1000 votes based on first preferences.

Marginal seats get more money. So this is great for Inner West. It’s been a very long time since any of the Inner West seats were marginal. It will be interesting to see how the Labor party think they can win their heartland back. Expect to see more green corridors like Tebbutt and Firth’s light rail mini-ecology project. And, of course, more money for marginal progressive groups like Elena’s Scarlet Alliance.

By the time next year’s State election arrives, we will see how different the progressive, affluent seats of the Inner West are to the rest of the state. But we certainly don’t have to worry about a hung parliament in NSW. Bitchin’… New pizza and schnitzel restaurant Tiger Tiger opened at Zoo Bar in Norton Plaza last week. Owned by West Tigers captain Robbie Farah this is the fifth restaurant in five years at this location – can this big boy resuscitate Norton St?
