Sydney is a great city to live in, boasting beautiful beaches, parks and our very own vibrant Inner West! But there’s no denying that when it comes to culture sometimes Sydney’s scene can be a little lack-luster, especially when compared to international cities or (dare we say it) Melbourne. Part of this is the lack of free and cheap spaces in which creativity can be fostered, especially when it comes to music. To put it frankly, Sydney’s music scene is in dire need of a revival, with limited live music venues and few good rehearsal spaces, it hasn’t exactly been an encouraging environment for young talent in the past. A new City of Sydney new initiative, however, sets to tackle this problem by converting up to 17 public buildings into free venue spaces for young musicians. This exciting development is sure to make a few households happy, with a couple less Van Halen covers floating up from the basement.
