Taste of Shanghai-Ashfield

Ciao chats to Aaron Mi, Managing Director of Taste of Shanghai Group

Ciao Magazine: How does it feel to be a finalist? Is this your first time being involved in the Local Business Awards?

Aaron Mi : I am thrilled for us to be a finalist again this year. This is the second year where we’ve been a finalist in the outstanding restaurant category in the Inner West Business awards.

CM: How long have you been in business?

AM: We first opened Taste of Shanghai-Ashfield seven years ago. This was the first of our restaurants that we have opened.

CM: What makes your business stand out from the rest?

AM: Since we first opened we’ve worked very hard on all aspects of our restaurant; on our food, menu design, staff development, hygiene and customer service. We also wanted to cater to people from outside the Inner West, as well as our local customers. By providing a combination of traditional Chinese food and modern Shanghainese cuisine in a casual dining setting, we have created a variety of flavours and an atmosphere that our customers seem to love.

CM: What do you love about working in the Inner West?

AM: This restaurant in Ashfield is our first establishment and when we first opened, we found the local people of the Inner West to be incredibly friendly and tolerant. No matter if you are from Asia, the Middle East or Europe, everyone is treated equally and fairly and you are always made to feel comfortable. It is great to able to work in such an accepting and multicultural environment.

CM: What are the most popular dishes at Taste of Shanghai?

AM: Our most popular dish is probably our steamed pork buns. They are a must order dish and can be had at any time of the day.

CM: Do you have a message for your loyal customers who voted for you?

AM: We would like to thank everyone who voted for us. You inspire us to continue to invent and provide great tasting food and to take our service to the next level.
