Hitting high notes

It has been years since the world’s most beloved tenor, Andrea Bocelli, visited our shores, but this September he will be back in Australia performing his greatest hits.

Playing at the Allphones Arena on the 16th of September, this concert will be divided into two parts. The first section will focus on classical songs and opera arias while the second will feature all the greatest hits from Bocelli’s latest album Passione – a collection of some of the most beautiful love songs of all time.

With one of the most recognisable voices in modern music and a career spanning 20 years with 80 million records sold, there is no doubt that Andrea Bocelli is a global icon.

After performing sell-out arena concerts to audiences of over 65,000 during his last visit to Australia, be sure not to miss out this time around. Tickets are available at www.andreabocelli.com/tickets or www.ticketek.com.au.

Priscilla Rides again

It’s been exactly 20 years since the boys of Priscilla blitzed their way across the continent in sequins, wigs and mascara. Newtown’s Dendy Cinemas figured that’s an anniversary worth celebrating – with a gala encore screening of the cult hit and a great big party!

movies-priscillaThe full title of Stephan Elliott’s camped-up road movie was of course The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, and it made Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving hugely popular stars. It was unleashed on an unsuspecting Australia in 1994 and was an instant hit – it’s still being rented now and of course given birth to countless stage presentations. There’s just something about the story of Mitzi, Felicia and Bernadette that endures way after the glitter fades.

On Thursday 14th August from 6pm Dendy Cinemas at Newtown will be hosting a special screening of the cult classic (movie at 6.45pm), with a pre-movie party in the foyer with a live DJ, drag performers, music and a complimentary drink. Part of it was filmed at The Imperial Hotel on King Street so appropriately enough, they’ll be hosting an official sparkling after party, and each ticket includes entry to that too. $25, book online at www.dendy.com.au. You probably already know what to wear.

★ 5 lucky Ciao readers can each win a free double pass to the screening at Dendy Cinemas and party at The Imperial Hotel. See our Giveaways page for details on how to enter.
