The Italian Forum debacle, a measles scare, Stanmore Maccas to deliver

• Debate over the future of the Italian Forum Cultural Centre has heated up over the last couple of weeks as stakeholders take aim at Mayor of Leichhardt Darcy Byrne. The centre has long been plagued with indecision, underfunding and lack of vision. The current debacle involves two expressions of interest, one from Co.As.It and one from the Actors Centre Australia. The centre is in administration and is being managed by SV Partners, who have, according to Leichhardt Council, taken way too long to make a decision on the sale. The matter is currently before the courts.

• Reports of measles outbreaks at Leichhardt Library, Leichhardt MarketPlace and Norton Plaza have parents on edge. An article in another publication cited that a person infected with measles had frequented these places a number of times and that parents should look out for sore eyes, a rash and fever. A scare campaign that damages business or responsible reporting?

• There are whispers that Subway Five Dock is soon to be replaced by a café/restaurant. Part of the grass area in front of the property will also see some new outdoor seating to enhance Five Dock’s alfresco feel.

• The new owners at Il Gelatiere on Norton Street are enthused enough to bandy around phrases like “Italian community” and “revitalisation.” Sounds like they are on a quest to bring Italians back to Leichhardt. l Word is Stanmore McDonalds is planning to start a new home delivery service. That’s right, you can now get a heart attack delivered right to your door! The Gumtree ad seeking delivery drivers is no longer open for people to apply, but it specified that applicants needed to drive within a small radius around the store and must have a “friendly personality.”
