Mount Riley 2013 Sauvignon Blanc
There is a lot of love out there for Marlborough sauvignon blanc and this is not only one of the better examples; it also offers excellent value.
It is unmistakably varietal with the herbaceousness and vibrancy that so many drinkers love.
It is crisp with tropical fruit notes and thoroughly refreshing when chilled.
A great choice for a post-work drink with the girls.
Taylors 2013 Merlot
Taylor winemaker Adam Egging is a huge fan of merlot and believes he has some vineyards in which the variety will shine.
This is certainly a very good example, with ripe dark berry flavours and real softness on the palate.
There are some dark ripe fruit notes here, well integrated oak and real approachability for a wine that is so young.
Brokenwood 2013 Chardonnay
Brokenwood is much better known for its classy Hunter semillons than its chardonnays, but the winemaking team has done a top-notch job with this blend of grapes from several regions around the country.
This is on the slightly bigger side of the chardonnay spectrum with tropical fruit and nutty flavours but still light on its feet with some complexity and layered notes thanks to barrel fermentation and lees aging.
