Wine with Winsor : March

Delightful Rosé

Swan Bay 2017 Pinot Noir Rosé

Swan Bay is the entry-level range for Scotchmans Hill, one of the pioneering wineries on the Bellarine Peninsula, outside Geelong. The label has recently been given a smart makeover and this fresh, dry, pale pink wine stands out for its sheer joie de vivre. Lively and fresh, it is ultra-vibrant; think liquid wild strawberries with a touch of cream. It finishes with crisp acidity and is probably best enjoyed well chilled, perhaps with Lebanese dishes. Vegan friendly. $22.

Something Different

Harewood Estate Flux IV 2016 Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer remains determinedly unfashionable despite its obvious charms and its amiable relationship with spicy Asian dishes. Perhaps that’s because it is difficult to pronounce, but if you sample this delicious example you’ll be coming back for more. Originally from Germany, gewurz offers bright florals, lychee and Turkish Delight flavours. From the Great Southern region of Western Australia, this is full of flavour and delightfully balanced. $28.

Italian Style

Serafino 2017 Bellissimo Montepulciano
It doesn’t get any more Italian than this; from the evocative label to the savoury flavours of Italy produced by an Italian family in McLaren Vale. This is a red designed for enjoying young and vibrant; inspired by the Maglieri family’s Italian roots. Widely planted throughout southern and central Italy, montepulciano is a medium-bodied grape that finds itself very much at home in warmer regions of Australia. Food-friendly and fun, this an ideal midweek wine. $20.
