A Fantastic Woman – Fundraising preview

The Oscar and Golden Globe nominated feature from Chile A Fantastic Woman will open at Dendy Newtown and Palace Norton Street on February 22. There’s quite a buzz about this  film –it’s the tale of a transgender woman mourning her lost lover from red-hot Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio (Gloria). Santiago bar singer Marina Vidal, played by sensational trans actress Daniela Vega in her screen debut, is headstrong, vivacious, confident and beautiful. After her much older lover, Orlando (Francisco Reyes), dies suddenly, Marina wants to grieve just as anyone would. When met with suspicion and prejudice by authorities and Orlando’s family, Marina boldly steps forward to expose the banality of intolerance and prove that she is, indeed, a fantastic woman.

“An absolutely remarkable performance by Vega” – London Evening Standard

“… this is a film of startling intensity and sinuous mood shifts wrapped in a rock-solid coherence of vision.” – The Hollywood Reporter

“Lelio has crafted perhaps the most resonant and empathetic screen testament to the everyday obstacles of transgender existence since Kimberley Peirce’s Boys Don’t Cry.”
