Curry for Cancer

Newtown dining institution Delhi ‘O’ Delhi is hosting another of its popular charity dinners in September, supporting potentially life-saving childhood cancer research, Winsor Dobbin reports.

On Thursday, September 18, guests are invited to enjoy a one-night-only dining experience highlighting the best of Delhi ‘O’ Delhi’s kitchen.

The chefs will craft a menu including signature dishes like smoky tandoori prawns to aromatic Bengali fish curry, their signature Good Karma (korma), and finishing with a sweet almond kulfi.

Guests can add matching wines for the full gourmet experience, and further help the cause, with raffles and prizes throughout the evening to keep the good karma flowing.

Restuarant founder Javed Khan has a deeply personal reason for supporting this cause.

After losing his brother to cancer in India, he returned to Australia determined to help children fighting the disease. Through Delhi ‘O’ Delhi’s Good Karma Korma initiative, $2 from every korma sold (ongoing) goes to The Kids’ Cancer Project.

It is an effort that has already raised more than $30,000 since 2021.

“This cause is close to my heart,” Khan says.” I lost my elder brother in India to stage four cancer at the age of 53, just seven months after his diagnosis. Witnessing the challenges faced by patients at Tata Memorial Cancer Centre in Mumbai was confronting, but seeing children bravely fighting this dreadful disease was truly heart-wrenching.

“I returned to Australia determined to make a difference for young cancer warriors.”

It is an effort that has already raised more than $30,000 since 2021.
