Holy Holy, Fat Freddy's Drop and Marlow

Friday 16th August
Holy Holy

This two-man project is pretty cool and they have a pretty impressive pedigree with one of the guys a former member of Dukes of Windsor. They play indie rock and it’s a good sound. What I particularly like is that they stay loud unlike far too many indie bands. I can’t say I am too much of fan of all their religious allegory but I can look past that.

Thursday 29th August
Fat Freddy’s Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop is a group of seven guys from New Zealand who combine techno, reggae, soul, jazz, dub and more into one incredibly unique and funky sound. They are playing some seriously interesting stuff and their popularity is still growing. This show will sell out soon and they have already added a second show on September 3rd that will probably sell out too. Check these guys out.

Enmore Theatre, $66.60

Friday 30th August
Marlow

I’m always interested in listening to local musos (Marlow’s lead singer and guitarist are from Drummoyne and Concord respectively) and these guys are pretty well regarded on Triple J Unearthed, which I think is pretty reliable. They’ve also sold out iconic Inner West venues like The Bald Faced Stag and The Annandale Hotel.  Unearthed says they sound like Temper Trap and The Mars Volta, but I don’t hear the Volta at all. Temper Trap is fair enough though so if you are into them, come check out Marlow’s EP launch.
