Local Drummoyne quilter, Wendy Williams (pictured above), has been headhunted to showcase her beautiful designs and share her patchwork secrets at the largest quilting convention in the Southern Hemisphere. The Australasian Quilting Convention will celebrate its 10th anniversary in Melbourne this year and features both international and Australian quilting talent. Wendy will be displaying three quilts at the convention including her Judges Choice Winner from the 2013 Sydney Quilt Show, and teaching her contemporary spin on quilting to visitors during the four-day event starting April 10th.

Movin On

Mortlake podiatrist Marco Mangano is getting ready to walk from Sydney to Coolangatta in September this year to raise funds for Lifeline and is inviting locals to support the cause by joining the trek! Like many Australians, Marco has been affected my mental illness and suicide having lost his wife in 2011 due to complications with her illness, and hopes to raise $10,000 for the charity that supported him during his grief.

APIA vs Marconi

The much anticipated Grand Opening of the new Lambert Park Stadium will take place on Saturday 22nd March at 6pm, with Premier Barry O’Farrell set to officially open the $3.5 million facility. To commemorate this prestigious event, the Balmain Financial Group is sponsoring an inaugural Balmain Commercial Cup which will see APIA Leichhardt Tigers go head to head with long time rivals, the Marconi Stallions. Balmain Financial Group will be contributing $5000 to the winner of Round 2 of the IGA FNSW National League Football Clash, as well as $1000 to the Man of the Match. This opening event is one that will spoken about for years to come, adding to the club’s already illustrious history – APIA formed in 1954 and has achieved national significance by producing the greatest number of Socceroos than any other football club in the history of Australian Football. To become part of the club’s history come along to the game, tickets ($15) are currently on sale at the club’s HQ on Marion Street.
