This little guy has apparently become a regular at the Inner West’s local swimming hole, the Dawn Fraser Baths in Balmain. According to regulars, the bird, which Ciao has identified as an Australasian Darter (however admittedly, no one in the office is a certified bird expert) has been visiting at least once a day to ensure he gets his laps in. The baths are the oldest pool and swimming club in Australia – quite an impressive title for the humble Inner West location. Founded in the 1880’s the baths are a favourite among local families, Olympic athletes, young couples and birds alike, continually welcoming sweat-drenched Inner Westies into its cool embrace. With an ever-increasing water quality in the area, as heavy industry moves further away from the harbour, perhaps our bird friend is on to a good thing and it won’t be long until our favourite little spot is overrun with crowds a la Bondi Icebergs and the like. We sure hope not. Let’s keep this slice of paradise for ourselves… and the bird.
