Win tickets to the Italian Film Festival

Ever since 2006 Ciao has been able to offer its readers a chance to win tickets to the Lavazza Italian Film Festival, which opens at Palace Norton Street on Sept 11 and in other states shortly after.

This year is no exception – and the details on how to enter are below. But for those struggling to decide what to pick from over thirty of the latest films from Italy’s best filmmakers, the choice is often quite a challenge. Fortunately, in a welcome move for discerning film buffs, the Bvlgari Critics’ Choice Award is back again this year. Inaugurated in 2017, it’s the festival’s official competition, and offers a cash prize from Palace Cinemas of $10,000 and a custom-designed award by the iconic Roman brand, Bvlgari.

The six competing films shortlisted this year form an exclusive snapshot of the finest contemporary Italian productions, ranging from critically acclaimed dramas through to gripping thrillers, delightful comedies and even one of the most anticipated political biopics to emerge in recent years. By all means, check out the entire festival line-up before you choose what to see, in fact you really should. But you certainly won’t go wrong with any of the six in competition either:

They are: The Opening Night film, Loro by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty); Dogman, the hugely compelling new crime thriller from Matteo Garrone (Gomorrah); Happy as Lazarro, Alice Rohrwacher’s enchanting third film and magical realist fable of modern Italy; Love and Bullets;  Euphoria, actor/director Valeria Golino’s (Rain Man) riveting drama about two brothers forced back into each other’s lives, and and the 17-time international award-winner including Best Film at the Italian Academy (David di Donatello) Awards; acclaimed Sardinian-set drama Daughter of Mine (pictured below).

Win one of five double passes

Thanks to the festival organisers and Palace Cinemas, we have five double passes to festival films to give away to readers. For a chance to win, all you have to do is email us and tell us the name of one of the films you’d like to see. The passes can be used for any session* or any film, including the six in the Bvlgari Critics’ Choice Award. Email us at info@ciaomagazine.com.au making sure you include your name and postal address for the tickets.
