Spanish Film Festival ticket giveaway

Once again the very best of recent Spanish cinema is being showcased at Palace Cinemas – from box office smash hits to the work of celebrated auteurs. The 21st Spanish Film Festival‘s packed program includes 25 films  runs from April 17 through to May 6.

The festival opens with a sure-fire crowd pleaser packed with music and laughs inspired by real-life Spain’s Got Talent winners, The Tribe (pic above), and finishes three weeks later with visionary Academy Award winning director Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece Pan’s Labyrinth. In between there’s this year’s Spanish box office smash No Filter, about a woman who can’t stop speaking her mind; a selection of the work of Spain’s emerging female directors which includes last year’s critically acclaimed Summer 1993; plus a four feature retrospective dedicated to the work of Bigas Lunas (perhaps best known for 1994’s soulful erotic fantasy The Tit and the Moon). And since no Spanish festival would be complete without Penélope Cruz, this year she’s in two films – as the girlfriend of notorious drug baron Pablo Escobar in Loving Pablo, and as the fiery daughter of a bordello owner in 1992’s classic of modern Spanish cinema, Jamon, Jamon. Amazingly, she has the same co-star in both, but more about that below…

For the full lineup of 25 films and booking info head to the festival website.

Thanks to Palace Cinemas and the festival organisers we have 5 double festival passes to give away. To enter just email us at info@ciaomagazine.com.au and tell us the name of Penélope Cruz’s equally famous co-star in both the films above (and now real-life husband). Check how hunky he looks in 1992, and now compare the middle aged man with a paunch here. We’ll mail out the passes so do remember to include a postal address. Competition closes at midday Monday 16th April.
