The Inner West Council has cancelled their Raw Cacao Dance Party after complaints surrounding the events host David Wolfe, who is a well-known anti-vaccination advocate. The complaints were made by Summer Hill’s Member for Parliament, Jo Haylen and other residents.
Council obtained a written statement from the organisers confirming that vaccinations would not be discussed at the event, however, the attendance of David Wolfe continued to cause outrage among the community.
“It is clear that our community feels extremely strongly about Mr Wolfe and his highly unconventional views, particularly around the issue of vaccinations. They have made it clear that they feel hosting Mr Wolfe in a Council-owned venue is a validation and endorsement of his anti-immunisation stance,” said Inner West Council Administrator, Richard Pearson.
Due to the councils continued support of childcare services and immunisation programs, Mr Pearson stated that the Council did not want to be associated with anti-vaccination views.
“Council run a monthly immunisation clinic and even employs an Immunisation Officer,” Mr Pearson said.
“Inner West Council is a strong advocate for our community, and our residents expect that from us.”
The event was scheduled for Saturday night at Marrickville Town Hall, which has been promoted as a ” celebration of life( and chocolate)”.
