City of Canada Bay Announces award recipients.

“Here at the City of Canada Bay we are committed to supporting local organisations, events and services which enrich our community,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“This year I am delighted to announce our grant and sponsorship programs will see $104,707 distributed to 56 well-deserving groups.”

The Community Grants Program is an annual project that provides financial support for groups and initiatives which benefit local residents. This year 44 groups received a total of $64,704 of funding.

Among the recipients are VASA, a volunteer organisation which facilitates out of home excursions for housebound residents and Concord’s Dancing Heart Studio which delivers a dance program for people with a disability.

Services such as a senior’s friendship group and a migrant mentoring workshop were also awarded grants.

The Sponsorship Program saw $40,000 distributed to 12 events and initiatives. Recipients included A Bloody Great Night Out which raises money for blood cancer research at Concord Hospital, the Rhodes Moon Festival and the King of Concrete skateboard contest.

“Organisations and events like these are the lifeblood of our community and our grant and sponsorship programs are a wonderful way for us to help them achieve their goals,” Mayor Tsirekas said.
