Anyone who travels by train to Ashfield knows that Cafe on Charlotte is the best stop for coffee. However, their fantastic selection of sandwiches and wraps, not to mention their delicious sweet treats, also make this cafe a fantastic place for a sit-down meal. Here Ciao chats with Café Manager, Daisy Catarci, about the secrets behind this local legend eatery…

How does it feel to be a finalist again after winning the award for Best Café in 2013?
We were absolutely delighted and honoured to be finalists again for the Inner West Business Awards in 2014, just after winning the Best Cafe award in 2013! We are always grateful to our customers at Café on Charlotte and we will continue to strive for excellence in the food and beverage industry. This is the third year running that we have been finalists, and it’s always a welcome surprise and privilege!

What has changed at the club since winning your award last year?
Our cooking and food preparation is always evolving and improving with the latest techniques in the food industry.  Ensuring that our team members receive continuous training in all facets of the cafe business means that
we can always provide the finest food and flavours in the cafe. We have also recruited additional qualified baristas for Cafe on Charlotte since 2013.

What do you think is the key to your success as a café?
All of the food preparation, including our sandwiches, wraps and rolls are freshly made on the spot. Our cooking is always freshly made using the highest quality produce and ingredients from Australian suppliers. Our coffee is also an Award Winning Australian made blend, that has a superb taste. Also, our commitment to providing only the best in food and beverage to our customers with a big smile is the key to our success.

Can you tell us a bit about the catering services you offer?
We provide a delicious menu of wood fired sourdough, whole meal sourdough sandwiches, baguettes, Turkish Bread and tortilla wrap varieties with sumptuous and enticing fillings.  We also provide fruit platters and tempting sweet platters consisting of fruit tarts, date scones and friands! We prepare our platters 30 minutes prior to serving to ensure freshness and taste.

What would you say is the food philosophy at the café?
Our food philosophy at Cafe on Charlotte is to serve wholesome, fresh food that will always delight your taste buds!

Tell us about your Loyalty Club – what are the benefits of joining?
For our loyal customers we provide FREE coffee, via a loyalty card after you have purchased 9 coffees. We also provide a FREE coffee when you purchase a travel mug that is handy for mornings on the go!
