Weary travellers love airport hotels. They provide well needed pauses, restoration and relieve stress. Hyatt Place London Heathrow Airport, does all this and more, giving our family much respite after a long hectic journey. We’ve got an early morning flight back to Melbourne and after 14 days on the move, this little family, with a lot of luggage, were met with great relief after checking into Hyatt Place London Heathrow Airport.
The hotel is centrally located. It’s a quick Uber or bus ride from the airport. Remember, Heathrow Airport is huge, so it is best to organise your navigation prior to carting your luggage through the terminal. Despite the best signage, it is easy to get lost, especially when the airport is busy with serious corporate travellers.
I have never been to a hotel that understands its guests’ profile as perfectly as Hyatt Heathrow. Perhaps they’ve properly researched the type of guest that stays at an airport hotel or perhaps management have actively listened to feedback, probably both. The staff and setting are very cognisant of how guests feel when travelling. Guests are tired, often hungry, they’re short on time, and efficiency is paramount. We are checked in quickly by Randa who courteously explains where the restaurant, gym and breakfast are located. He is simultaneously acknowledging other guests that are waiting in line, so they feel reassured their comfy room is not far away.
Our rooms are modern and well fitted with luggage racks (essential for the re-pack prior to boarding to make sure the luggage kilo limits are strictly adhered to!). The beds are large with crisp sheets and snuggly quilts (or duvets/doonas as they call them in Europe).
For dinner, we opt for the restaurant bar as the kids (and us) are tired and the couch looks cosy. We’re pleased with the roasted haloumi chips, burgers and fries and other tasty morsels of comfort food. After a quiet relaxing dinner, we are off to our rooms to wind down.
Once in our rooms we are mesmerised by views of the runway. As plane after plane take-off, we monitor the airlines, guess destinations and watch planes taxi their way to magical faraway places. My son can’t stop watching, but eventually he drifts off to sleep. All the windows are triple glazed, so it is impossible to hear anything other than silence.
Breakfast follows a similar theme. Quality offerings served without fuss but plenty of style. There’s a selection of cold meats like Milano salami and pastrami, fresh bread, croissants and Danishes. There’s also plenty of condiments like Nutella, a huge variety of jams and honeys and toppings like roasted sunflower seeds and raisins. Our family is delighted with the hash browns, sausages and eggs to order. Any pre-flight anxiety is driven away by the staff’s pleasant smiles (especially Agata who is lovely).
We reluctantly leave breakfast. The Uber car, the staff helped us order, has arrived, and we are off on another journey. We are grateful Hyatt Place London Heathrow Airport’s standards are consistent and predictable making living out of a suitcase fun, and travelling, safe and easy.
