Free community events this weekend….visit Marrickville’s oldest cottage, be breathed at by a mechatronic dragon or grab your skateboard for some hi-fi lowlight. This weekend Creative Trails ends in a fire fuelled finale event when dancing flames will light the way as the Fire Garden by Tortuga Studios illuminates the night sky and an electronic wonderland of movement and art at ElectroSK8 at Sydenham Skate Park.

The free community event on Saturday, 10 August will honour the proud working past of Sydenham and St Peters with industrial artists inspired by metal and fire. This all ages event will also host livemusic, DJs, interactive art, food trucks and more.”

Mayor Byrne said the program also featured a mammoth opening night on Friday, 2 August with cutting EDGE art projects and exhibitions at Monster Mouse, Makerspace and Create or Die studios in Marrickville.

    Part fronded beauty, part jungle beast, the Fire Garden is set to roar into life as the sun slinks over the horizon.   Over 40 artists, fire-based installations, interactive works, sculptures, projections, live music, DJ’s, camp fires and more beneath the jet trails at Sydenham Green.

    This free art event will ignite your senses and possibly blow your mind !

    Described as ‘a vagabond plot of wild beauty,’ The Fire Garden is brought to you by Tortuga Studios, St Peters largest and longest running warehouse arts space, alongside some of Australia’s most eclectic industrial artists, including Dillon MacEwen, Garth Knight, Alien Proof, Rachael Lafferty, Jasmine Poole, Icarus Productions, Murray Adams, Rogue Simian and more.

    Explore Tortuga Studio’s fire-fuelled garden, with its otherworldly mechatronic creatures, raging Mad Max machines, and whimsical auras of flickering light. Brought to you by over 40 artists, makers, musicians and performers, it stands as testament to the talent forged in the warehouse arts spaces of the inner west.

    An adrenaline pumped roller derby demo from Inner West Roller Derby League

  • ElectroSK8 skate and art performances.
    Over 24 artists in partnership with the University of Sydney Design Lab.  Humans, creativity and technology collide transforming the concrete playground of the skate park into an electronic wonderland of movement, technology, art and light.

    A free community celebration at one of Marrickville’s oldest original cottages dating back to 1860. Restorative works have returned the cottage to its full glory.  Free event. All ages. Refreshments served.

    Artist Talk with Liz Shreeve

    Liz talks about her public artwork in development for Smidmore Street. Learn about the creative process for this work embracing the history of the site– Aboriginal communities, the woollen mills, the migrants and families who built and shaped the textile industry for which Marrickville became famous. And now, contemporary Marrickville.
