Ripper riesling
Wynns Coonawarra Estate 2013 Riesling
Coonawarra may be best known for its reds but Wynns have been making this reliably good riesling since 1962.
It’s a lovely wine with varietal lime and lemon meringue pie flavours.
It finishes dry with some brisk but not overwhelming acidity and would be great enjoyed well chilled with anything from smoked salmon to Portuguese spicy chicken.
Often found as a discount special.

Suave Italian
La Vendetta 2012 Sangiovese
This excellent Tuscan red is one of a range of bargain-basement imported wines distributed by Fourth Wave Wine Partners.
It is a nicely balanced sangiovese from Tuscany with bright fruit combining impressively with some more savoury, earthy characters.
A lovely food wine that would be an amiable companion with pasta dishes, pizzas or even a late-night cheese and crackers.

Bright blend
Forester Estate 2013 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
Forester Estate is one of the lower-profile wine producers in Western Australia’s beautiful Margaret River region but this blend of two grapes that thrive in the region shone in a recent tasting.
It is a fresh, clean, drink-now style with a beguiling combination of citrus flavours and herbaceous notes.
Pair this with pan-fried fish dishes, or maybe sushi and sashimi.
