Jemma Hamilton is an Annandale local and has been an active member of Leichhardt’s Youth Council since 2010, taking part and assisting in youth events including Youth Week, educational workshops and battle of the bands. Here Jemma chats to Ciao about who she’d like to have over for dinner and why My Kitchen Rules trumps MasterChef.
What is your favourite café or restaurant in the local area?
Probably Black Toast on Booth Street in Annandale – it used to be called The Gallery and my family always goes there for brunch.
Who does the majority of cooking in your household?
I do some cooking at home, not a whole lot, as I often don’t have enough time. My mum cooks most of the meals for my sister and I.
Do you have a signature dish you really love making?
I don’t really have a signature dish, but I really like making spaghetti bolognese and lasagna.
What is your favourite cuisine to eat?
I don’t have a favourite cuisine, but at the moment my obsession is frozen raspberries. They are a great after-school snack or go well with some yogurt for dessert. You can also take them with you to work or school in a container and they unfreeze and taste great.
If you had to choose, do you prefer MasterChef or My Kitchen Rules? Why?
I prefer My Kitchen Rules because it’s state versus state so it gets more fans involved. Also all of the competitors get to try each other’s food and this allows them to learn from their fellow competitors. I’m not a huge fan of MasterChef. I liked the first season but since then it has become very over dramatic and this, I believe, lowers the quality of the show.
If you could invite anyone in the world over for dinner at your place, whom would you invite and why?
This is a really tricky question; I think it would have to be between Harry Styles (he’s a babe), Macklemore and Obama. I love Macklemore’s music and he’s really inspirational so he would be great to talk to. While Obama would be amazing to have dinner with because he probably has a lot of stories and it would be interesting to find out about his job and what his life is like as one of the most influential men in the world.
Jemma’s healthy ice cream
This is a healthy yummy recipe that I learnt from a friend and I pass it on to everyone.
Ingredients:
2 bananas
Milk
Peanut butter
Method:
1. Cut up 2 bananas and put them in a container in the freezer for a few hours.
2. Once they have frozen, put them in the blender with a tablespoon of peanut butter and a dash of milk.
